Induced breeding for production of fish spawn

Providing quality fish spawn is a major problem in this region and even more in places like Sagar Island of West Bengal. A technology for production of fish spawn was adapted from CIFA, Bhubaneswar  from where a  Portable hatchery has been procured and installed at VIB. Induced breeding for pure disease-free fish spawn and also generate income for rural people through production of fish spawn.

Current Status:

Jal-Krishi Sampad Karmis (aqua entreprenres) could produce 16,80,000 fish spawn per breeding at our portable hatchery  and supply to the fish  farmers of different blocks of Sundarbans region of West Bengal. Each Jal-Krishi Sampad Karmi earned Rs 14000  on an average during season.
